Start riding, stay safe and see you soon.

Greetings Lutsen Family,

I hope this message finds you well.  Thank you for your support, I have received heartfelt messages from many of you during these uncertain times. We have been working closely with our partner, Visit Cook County, as we considered the different scenarios and alternatives that would allow us to safely produce the 2020 Stages Cycling Lutsen 99er. At this time, our host community would like to share their thoughts and their ultimate decision with you:

“We regret to inform you that Visit Cook County (VCC) and its board of directors has canceled the Lutsen 99er scheduled for June 27, 2020.

From 80 riders in its inaugural year to nearly 1800 riders a quick nine years later, the 99er has become part of the Cook County fabric.  Our community is proud to be associated with this event – our amazing volunteers, local folks lining back roads cheering riders and the family of riders that joins us every year.

Because of what this event brings to our community, the decision to cancel was difficult.  On the other-hand, we believe this is the right decision in light of our rural community, our razor thin medical resources and yet uncertainties and unknowns that remain with this pandemic and the gathering of many people.

We look forward to hosting the event June 26, 2021.”

We are providing all 2020 registered riders with the following three options:

  • Defer your entry to the 2021 Lutsen 99er event (June 26th, 2021) at no additional cost.
  • Transfer your registration to this fall’s Chequamegon MTB Festival presented by Trek, scheduled for September 19th, 2020, at no additional cost.
    • If you are already registered for the 2020 Chequamegon MTB Festival, you can only select options 1 or 3.
  • Receive a 70% refund off your 2020 Lutsen 99er registration fee, minus processing fees.

All registration decisions must be submitted before May 31, 2020, through your Run Signup account.

We are truly heartbroken to not be hosting you this June, and we cannot just sit back and do nothing… So, in celebration of the area and your 99er enthusiasm, and in partnership with a few of our great local sponsors (Fika Coffee and Visit Cook County), we are excited to announce the 2020 Stages Cycling Lutsen 99er Lone Wolf Challenge!

What the hell is the Lone Wolf Challenge? Well, in the beginning of June our 99er team will send out the GPS data for the 25er, 49er, 69er and 99er courses, and from June 5th to July 12th each of you will have the opportunity to head up to Cook County yourself and independently ride our course. Then, after a sweet ride in the Northwoods, stop into Fika Coffee in Lutsen with proof of your completion (GPS data, a dirty bike and/or a smile is acceptable) and pick up a free commemorative 2020 Lutsen 99er gift made by Wolf Tooth Components. Follow our social media channels or watch your inbox for future updates as well.
